Did you know that Pteranodon wasn't actually a dinosaur? It was a type of flying reptile called a pterosaur, which means "winged lizard." These amazing creatures lived at the same time as dinosaurs, during the Late Cretaceous period, about 86 to 84 million years ago. Pteranodons were experts at fishing, using their long, pointy beaks to pluck fish from the water while flying! They had a huge wingspan, some as wide as a small airplane, reaching up to 20 feet (6 meters) across! Despite their size, their bones were hollow, making them very light for flying. They mostly lived near ancient coastlines, soaring over prehistoric seas in search of their next meal.
